How long will it take for my gums to heal for my new dentures?

Mary-Jane

Hello, my name is Mary-Jane and I am looking to get my first pair of dentures. I have teeth that would need to be extracted and I am worried it will take a long time for my gums to heal before I am able to receive the dentures. How long does it usually take for my gums to be ready to have the dentures put in?

Hi Mary Jane, I do know that when you have a tooth extracted and are going to get an implant, not dentures, but a new implanted tooth, it can take up to 5/6 months for your gums to heal suitably to be able to handle the implant. I don't think that it will be quite as long for dentures as opposed to an implant, but it could still take 2 months or longer. Please ask your oral surgeon or dentist and they will be able to give you an exact answer for you specifically.
