does my child have ADHD?

Megan Dohmel

So my child has struggled with school for a couple years now, with complaints from several teachers that he doesn't pay attention and is goofing off, or staring out the window, doodling, etc. I've suspected for a while that he may have ADHD or ADD. He also tends to be quite energetic, its a wonder I haven't lost him yet, since he's always running around. Should I take him to the doctor? How serious is ADHD/ADD? He's in the fifth grade now and I'm afraid if it doesn't get better he'll be held back becuase his grades are struggling. What should I do? How do you treat it?

My friend’s son has one of those spinning fidget toys and apparently that helps young kids focus. I think you can buy them just about anywhere these days, so that might be a good first step. Sounds like the problem is more serious though. He may be a prime candidate for Ritalin. Try doing some research on the web to learn more about ADHD symptoms and then bring him to the doctor if he is showing most of them. Best of luck.
