when to check a mole for cancer?

Harry D.

My whole life I've spent a lot of time in the sun. At the beach, in my garden, working in construction. I'll wear sunscreen half the time, if it's really bright outside, but a lot of days I won't. Over the years I've gotten a lot of spots, freckles and moles. I'm worried now that some of them may be skin cancer or cancer of some kind. How can you tell if they're just normal moles, or if they are cancer? At what point should I see the doctor to have them checked?

Skin cancer is no joke! I heard on the radio that it’s the most common type of cancer, not to scare you or anything. I think you should see a doctor sooner rather than later just to be sure. You’re outside a ton so even if they are just moles, your doctor will understand why you were concerned. Also if your doctor isn’t sure, you’ll probably have to go to a specialist like a dermatologist.
