Can damp and mold in my house be bad for my health?

Marko R.

I live in a older house that has not been renovated in a long time and I have started to notice a few damp spots around my home. I have even found some mold. I plan to fix it soon but I want to know if mold can affect my health because I noticed I have a cold and sneezing a lot.

Hi Marko. I do think that mould can affect your health, but only mould spores. I would also be concerned about the dampness and water damage in general. If i were you I would get a contractor to come inspect the house and evaluate the mould as well as find the source of the water damage. I don't know if you rent or own your home but letting the water damage continue could hurt the value of the house, as well as continue to contribute to you feeling sick. If you cannot afford to do this right now then please at least attempt to scrub and remove the mould (while wearing a mask!) to make sure it doesn't continue to spread. It might be worth looking for the source of the water yourself.
